As we close out 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on what a meaningful and memorable year it has been for all of us at Hunzinger Construction. Your partnership and trust are at the center of everything we do, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to continue building lasting relationships, and remarkable projects, together.

A Year of Growth & Milestones: 2025 was filled with exciting progress across our company. From major project completions to new opportunities and continued growth within our team, this year pushed us forward in ways we’re incredibly proud of.

Whether breaking ground on new facilities, celebrating on-time project deliveries, or expanding our reach across the region, our teams continued to raise the bar on quality, craftsmanship, and collaboration.

Project Highlights

We had the privilege of working on many impactful projects this year. Here are just a few standout moments:

Hunzinger Builds the “Mother of all Warehouses” – Uline WQ Warehouse and Distribution Center which wins Best Industrial New Construction Milwaukee Business Journal Real Estate Award and The Daily Reporter’s Top Project Award

The ULINE WQ distribution center in Kenosha is nicknamed the “Mother of all Warehouses.” It’s the largest warehouse in Wisconsin and one of the largest in the United States. The 1.44 million-square-foot facility boasts over 33 acres of warehouse, built on 179 acres. Hunzinger served as Construction Manager for the WQ Distribution Center which included 85 acres of grading, landscaping and all new site utilities and paving. The facility is massive and includes 1,266 skylights covering 38,297 SF, 522 precast panels that contain 85,953 lineal feet or 16.3 miles of precast caulking joints. The building has 297 loading dock doors. The building perimeter is 5,938 lineal feet or 1.13 miles. Just over 76,000 cubic yards of concrete were used for the building and site. WQ adds to Uline’s current 9.6 million SF of corporate and warehouse buildings headquartered in Southeastern WI, bringing the company’s presence to 10+ million SF in Kenosha County alone.

The new warehouse is expected to create 200+ jobs, including warehouse associates, managers, and facilities staff roles. The facility was designed to support growing demand and features modern amenities like on-site fitness center and café. It houses a large portion of Uline’s extensive product catalog, which includes over 40,000 items.

Hunzinger Celebrates the Completion of the Associated Bank Theater Center as the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre Holds Ribbon Cutting on October 11th and Worker Appreciation Party November 1st

About the MKE Rep

The new 152,500-square-foot facility, designed by EUA with theater consultants Fisher Dachs Associates blends old and new. It includes a modernized version of the historic former power plant, home to the Rep since 1987, as well as a new glass addition. For the first time, all three performance spaces are now connected through a shared, multilevel lobby.

The Associated Bank Theater Center features:

Ellen & Joe Checota Powerhouse Theater: the Rep’s primary performance venue, fully reimagined within the old power plant structure.

Herro-Franke Studio Theater: a new, flexible black box space for bold and experimental productions.

Stackner Cabaret: a cabaret-style venue with a full dining experience, renovated in 2018 by Uihlein-Wilson Architects and Hunzinger.

Each project is a testament to the dedication of our team and the trust clients place in us to bring their vision to life.

After more than six years of planning and over 300,000 hours of construction worked by more than 800 people, Milwaukee Repertory Theater officially opened its new home in the Associated Bank Theater Center with a celebratory ribbon cutting.

The event marked a major milestone: the completion of an $80.1 million project aimed at ushering in a bold new era for theater in Milwaukee. The ribbon-cutting kicked off an evening that included a gala concert headlined by Broadway legend Bernadette Peters.

On Saturday night November 1st the MKE Rep threw a big Worker Appreciation Party/Open House for all the workers who participated in designing, building and facilitating the project. Over 400 people were in attendance to share stories, partake in drinks and appetizers and watch a special dress rehearsal presentation of COME FROM AWAY. It was a great time and a very special evening.

The Rep’s Managing Director Melissa Vartanian and Artistic Director Mark Clements kicked off the performance with thank you speeches. Hunzinger Vice President and Project Executive Jon Jansen welcomed the group. He thanked the audience for joining us on this very special occasion. He thanked The Rep for their vision, their investment in our community, and their hard work and dedication to make this project a reality.

Hunzinger Begins Works as Saint Francis de Sales Seminary Project Breaks Ground

On a beautiful Sunday in early May, Saint Francis de Sales Seminary held a groundbreaking ceremony for their massive renovation project. Hunzinger has been hired to serve as Construction Manager for the “Zeal for the Lord’s House” project that is the first major capital campaign by St. Francis de Sales Seminary.

This multifaceted complex project focuses on extensive renovation, restoration, and expansion of its historic campus to support growing priestly formation, addressing critical infrastructure needs like HVAC, electrical, fire protection, new roofs and windows, and restoring Christ King Chapel, the grand staircase and dome and Kiley Hall to ensure the seminary’s future for generations. The renovation also includes modernizing spaces like the dining areas and bathrooms for functionality. The expansion includes building new facilities including a lecture hall and classrooms to accommodate the seminary’s significant growth. The project is scheduled to be completed in late 2026.

Fundraising for the project continues. This campaign is called the Zeal for the Lord’s House. All contributions to the Zeal for the Lord’s House Campaign should be made payable to The Salesianum Trust. This separate 501(c)(3) will house all campaign funds. The EIN for The Salesianum Trust is 99-3040575. Or click the link below to donate: https://www.sfs.edu/Zeal/Give

We Owe It All To Our People

2025 also brought growth and momentum within our team

Hunzinger Celebrated Three Newsmakers at The Daily Reporter’s Annual Newsmakers Award Dinner
With over 400 construction industry professionals in attendance, Newsmakers honors individuals and companies that have made headlines throughout the year and have excelled in their field. Hunzinger is proud to have 3 Newsmakers this year!

Meagan DeGroot was named Rising Young Professional Newsmaker of the Year as Meagan joined Hunzinger 2 years ago and worked on our project management team for the $80M+ Milwaukee Repertory Theater Project that wrapped this fall. She is a hard worker that is dedicated to learning all aspects of construction. She is a great example of what our young leaders are doing to keep Hunzinger’s Brand in the forefront of the marketplace and also to grow the industry. We are proud and support Meagan as she was elected Vice President of the National Association of Women in Construction MKE Chapter organization this fall.

Marc Gilman was named Newsmaker Estimator of the Year. Since joining Hunzinger almost 3 years ago, Marc has brought a depth of knowledge specializing in heavy infrastructure including water and wastewater treatment plants and his emphasis has been on hard bid, design/build, and negotiated project experience concentrating on self-perform concrete, carpentry and millwright work. He has built strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers and people trust his work and insights into projects. Thanks to Marc’s leadership and his guidance of our estimating “hard bidding” team, we have been successful on a number of these opportunities including Rubicon Site Improvements for the State of Wisconsin, Well No. 8 Facility in Oconomowoc, WI, and WEC New West Bend Service Center.

Josh Stanton was named Newsmaker Superintendent of the Year as it would be difficult to find a Superintendent working in the region right now that has a more impressive list of industrial projects or clients than Stanton. Since 2020 he has completed projects for Komatsu, CNH, Uline, Wangard Partners and Charter Steel.

Leadership Transition Announced in 2025

The year 2025 saw the announcement of a leadership transition that marks the next chapter in Hunzinger Construction Company’s storied legacy. Matt Hunzinger was named President of Hunzinger Denver, Scott Wendt was named President of Hunzinger Milwaukee and David Tengler assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Hunzinger’s Milwaukee office. John Hunzinger continues to lead the company as Chairman and CEO. Jim Hunzinger also continued in his role as Executive Vice President.

This transition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to thoughtful succession planning, stability, and the enduring values that have guided its success for more than 118 years.

Hunzinger has flourished under four generations of family leadership. John and Jim Hunzinger, the founder’s grandsons, along with their late brother-in-law Kevin O’Toole have played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s modern era. Since assuming his leadership position as President and CEO, John Hunzinger has marshaled the company through a period of remarkable transformation and growth with Hunzinger responsible for the construction of many of Southeast WI’s most significant buildings and venues. Revenues have expanded to nearly $400 million during his four decades of leadership. In 2018, Hunzinger became an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, and a new era commenced.

Beyond the numbers, John’s tenure has been marked by an ambitious expansion of the company’s service offerings, broadening capabilities to meet the evolving needs of clients and positioning Hunzinger as a trailblazer in the field of Sustainable Building and Green Building Practices and technology in all aspects of construction. Hunzinger has invested significant time and resources into the successful implementation of its own trademarked process known as Virtual Design & Construction Coordination®, (V.D.C.C.). Equally significant has been his focus on enhancing Hunzinger’s reputation as unconditionally dedicated to achieving excellence in the marketplace by understanding and exceeding customer expectations through integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct.

And finally, we can’t forget about those interns… Hunzinger Welcomed a Record Number of Summer Interns in 2025

Hiring interns from our incredible Wisconsin Universities is not only great for our company, but also a great way to keep talent in the area while supporting the growth of the industry. This year we had a couple that returned from the previous summer while welcoming a number of new bright interns. Hunzinger’s Commitment to Community:
Charity Jeans Raises Over $42,000 in 2025

At Hunzinger, we firmly believe that it is our responsibility to be an active community partner with organizations whose mission is to help others. We have developed a robust community outreach program of support and encourage all of our employees to seek opportunities that share our passion. Hunzinger’s “Charity of the Month” Program provides our people an opportunity to suggest a charity that they are involved in, or care about, money is collected throughout the month and at the end of the month, Hunzinger matches all funds collected. The program has grown over the last 30+ years since its launch at Hunzinger.

Hunzinger employees were very charitable in 2025, donating over $42,000.00 to organizations selected for our “Charity of the Month” campaigns. Some of the charities are selected on behalf of our clients and their community efforts like the Racine Summer Youth Program and MYSO’s Violins of Hope. Many charities are selected because our people have personal connections like Love Logan, Little Warriers, Alzheimer’s Walk, Project Bubaloo, Milwaukee County’s War Memorial Center, Feed Your Soul and the Amy Heebsh Memorial Scholarship Fund. Hunzinger also has longstanding relationships with a number of charitable organizations like Make-A-Wish WI, Hard Hats with Heart, and Musicians on Call.

Looking Ahead to 2026

We’re entering the new year with excitement and optimism. Several upcoming projects and opportunities are already underway, and we look forward to continuing our work with the same focus, integrity, and collaboration that have guided us for generations.

Thank you for being part of our story and for your continued partnership. We look forward to building even more together in 2026 and beyond.

Happy New Year!
