Hunzinger was the first contractor and facility owner in the State of Wisconsin to complete respective Gold and Platinum LEED-CI Certifications of our buildings. Hunzinger is at the forefront of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) construction practices and administration

Today, Hunzinger has over 35 LEED Accredited Professionals on staff. We understand how to implement green strategy techniques such as building material and system integration processes required to achieve immediate and long term sustainability goals.

We are experienced in utilizing the U.S. Green Building Council’s developed LEED program to encourage sustainable and green practices. We achieved each of the four levels a building can be LEED certified; Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Each designation signifies a specific level of energy conservation and resource management. We will work collaboratively to identify and implement your project specific sustainability goals.

Whether it is culturally driven or mandated by code sustainable design and construction is here to stay. Those that embrace it will change the way they do business and those that chose to study and learn more about it will be transformed.

For our company, The Sustainable Movement was an invigorating process. Over a decade ago, we decided to take the plunge and embrace sustainable design and construction practices, which at the time was new to this marketplace. Today, our staff consists of over 35 LEED Accredited Professionals and LEED Green Associates. All of our company owned facilities are now LEED Certified. Sharing our passion and enthusiasm for green building led to the implementation of our continuing education and training programs for not only our own workforce, but also anyone else seeking professional accreditation and sustainability enrichment opportunities.

Our Team of LEED Accredited Professionals work together to effectively incorporate green building options based on the specific needs of each individual project. We will assist the owner with the building certification process. Our professionals are trained by the U.S. Green Building Council and attend detailed training sessions focused on new methods and alternatives regarding the environment and green building. Key members of Hunzinger’s team of LEED Accredited Professionals are also Pervious Concrete Certified through the National Ready Mix Concrete Association.

In the initial stages of planning, Hunzinger’s team of LEED Accredited Professionals analyzes each project phase to assess which environmental options are most appropriate and most cost-effective for your project. Hunzinger provides environmental options for companies at all budget levels. We offer recommendations on site use and utilization, selection of materials, and building systems and equipment. We can conduct Feasibility Studies, Comparative Cost Analyses, Cost/Benefit Studies, Payback Timelines, Life Cycle Planning. We explore and have experience implementing, Rebate & Grant Program Administration and will conduct Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Building Automation System Assessments and make recommendations to meet your needs.

As a contractor, one of the greatest contributions to sustainability we can make is a company-wide Construction Waste Management Plan. The construction and demolition waste stream provides many opportunities for diverting huge quantities of often relatively clean materials. Hunzinger is committed to diverting construction waste for its projects from landfills. We developed a comprehensive and proven company-wide waste management plan. For many years now, Hunzinger maximized it’s recycling by separating wood, steel and often drywall materials at jobsites. We create a site specific Waste Management Plan for each project that takes into account the type of project, size of the location, the types of materials and other construction spoils, and opportunities for additional recycling or reuse of materials. We are an industry leader in reuse and recycling our materials.

What is LEED?

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Phil Vetterkind LEED AP BD+C, Director of Sustainable Building Solutions and Frank Falsetti LEED AP ID+C, Sustainable Building Solutions Business Development have presented at various location Sustainable Topics from basic Introductory topics to more advanced levels. Approved USGBC Continuing Education Units for LEED AP’s with Specialty or Green Associates are regularly scheduled and available by request. Featured topics include Strategies, techniques and coordination methods for achieving LEED certification, study sessions which prepare individuals to pass the USGBC’s LEED Accredited Professional exam, Introduction to LEED, Sustainable Design and Construction practices for Architectural Design Development, LEED V4.0 Technical Presentation approved by the USGBC, along with the ability to host a project LEED Design Charrette. Given Sustainable Building Solutions extensive LEED accomplishments since 2004, Real Project Case Studies have also been presented.
