On Saturday May 11th, as the Milwaukee Repertory Theater wrapped up its 70th season, they held a groundbreaking ceremony as they launched construction on its new Associated Bank Theater Center.
Hunzinger is proud to be serving as Construction Manager for this $78 million renovation that includes the creation of three performance spaces, a larger lobby that can be used for community events, the Herzfeld Foundation Education & Engagement Center to serve the theater’s more than 20,000 students’ annually and expanded venues with modern audience amenities and upgrades to accessibility throughout.
According to the Rep’s Executive Director Chad Bauman over the next 4 decades, the Associated Bank Theater Center will welcome more than 10 million people to downtown Milwaukee, generate $1.5 million in economic impact during that time, strengthen Milwaukee’s brand as a hub of creativity, serve 1 million students with educational programs and lead as Milwaukee’s most inclusive venue.
The Rep will present its 2024-2025 season starting September 3rd while construction is happening. The theater company will produce 12 plays, with 3 being off site, one at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield and 2 at the Wilson Theater at Vogel Hall at the neighboring Marcus Performing Arts Center. In addition, there will be two plays in the Rep’s Stiemke Studio, which will not undergo construction until May 2025, and 4 plays in the Stackner Cabaret.
