Intern Spotlight: Levi Koepp

Every internship is an opportunity to learn, grow, and gain a deeper understanding of the industry, and Levi has made the most of his summer with the Hunzinger team. As a Field Intern, he’s gained hands-on insight into what it takes to manage a jobsite, from scheduling and change orders to submittals, progress reports, construction drawings, hardware checks, and punch listing areas.

Just as importantly, Levi has learned from the many subcontractors he interacts with each day, gaining a better appreciation for the knowledge and expertise that goes into every part of a construction project.

Here’s what Levi had to say about his experience:

“During my summer internship, I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to manage a jobsite, including scheduling, change orders, submittals, progress reports, viewing construction drawings, hardware checks, punch listing areas, and the list goes on and on. I knew going into the internship that there would always be something new to learn, but there have been so many parts of the job that I never would have imagined.

Every day, I learn something new, not just from the Hunzinger team, but also from the subcontractors I work around. Whether it’s an electrician, carpet installer, painter, plumber, or tile installer, everyone has a little trick of the trade they’re willing to share. I’ve spent time walking throughout the jobsite checking which rooms have trim installed, whether tiling is complete, seeing how fire pumps are tested, and making sure the work being completed and the quantities are properly recorded.

The biggest thing I would tell future interns is to always be social and talk to others. Asking questions and communicating with people is how you grow connections and become more comfortable in your working environment. It also builds trust and reliability with your peers, and in the construction industry, that’s one of the biggest factors everyone relies on.”

Thank you, Levi, for sharing your experience with us! We’re glad to have you on the team this summer and look forward to seeing all you accomplish.
