Intern Spotlight: Jacek Gutowski

From learning how to navigate construction drawings to gaining hands-on experience with project documentation, Jacek has made the most of his internship at Hunzinger. As a Project Engineer (PE) intern, he’s built new skills, asked questions, and gained a deeper understanding of what goes into keeping a project running smoothly.

Here’s what Jacek had to say about his experience:

“I have learned a lot here at Hunzinger and looking at the time frame, it is crazy that it has only been month since I started. The amount that I have learned is amazing. Coming here on the first day I had no idea what to expect, I had never been on any sort of construction site before. So that first day I was a little nervous to say the least. Looking back at that first day, I would tell myself to not be nervous since the Hunzinger company is super welcoming and understand that you are an intern who is here wanting to learn.

To name a couple things that I have learned over the course of this last month. I never really knew how many plans sets and drawings that go into a building. All subcontractors Certificates of Insurance (COI) is something that I have been assigned to collect and document. I make sure they all turn in their COIs before they can come onto the jobsite. Within that email I have been making sure to also include their safety incentive. This is within the contract that the subtractors say yes or no to in the contract. I have also delt with some submittals comparing these to the specs and making sure everything within the submittal is correct. Thank you, Jacek, for sharing your experience with us. We’re glad to have you on our team this summer and look forward to seeing all that you continue to learn and accomplish.
