Scott Wendt Named President of Hunzinger’s Milwaukee Office
David Tengler Named COO and Executive Vice President of Hunzinger’s Milwaukee Office

Hunzinger Construction Company, a trusted leader in the construction industry since 1907, is proud to announce a leadership transition that marks the next chapter in its storied family legacy. Matt Hunzinger has been named President of Hunzinger Denver, Scott Wendt has been named President of Hunzinger Milwaukee and David Tengler will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Hunzinger’s Milwaukee office. John Hunzinger will continue to lead the company as Chairman and CEO. Jim Hunzinger will continue in his role as Executive Vice President. John will continue to work closely with Matt, Scott and David as they assume these leadership roles. This transition reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to thoughtful succession planning, stability, and the enduring values that have guided its success for more than 118 years.
Hunzinger has flourished under four generations of family leadership. John and Jim Hunzinger, the founder’s grandsons, along with their late brother-in-law Kevin O’Toole have played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s modern era. Since assuming his leadership position as President and CEO, John Hunzinger has marshaled the company through a period of remarkable transformation and growth with Hunzinger responsible for the construction of many of Southeast WI’s most significant buildings and venues. Revenues have expanded to nearly $400 million during his four decades of leadership. In 2018, Hunzinger became an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, and a new era commenced.
Beyond the numbers, John’s tenure has been marked by an ambitious expansion of the company’s service offerings—broadening capabilities to meet the evolving needs of clients and positioning Hunzinger as a trailblazer in the field of Sustainable Building and Green Building Practices and technology in all aspects of construction. Hunzinger has invested significant time and resources into the successful implementation of its own trademarked process known as Virtual Design & Construction Coordination®, (V.D.C.C.). Equally significant has been his focus on enhancing Hunzinger’s reputation as unconditionally dedicated to achieving excellence in the marketplace by understanding and exceeding customer expectations through integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct.
Now, as Matt Hunzinger steps into the role of President of Hunzinger Denver and Scott Wendt in the role of President of Hunzinger Milwaukee, they bring a deep connection to the company and a fresh perspective rooted in hands-on experience. As great-grandson of our founder, Matt has been immersed in the company since his high school and college summers. Upon graduation for Colorado State University where he earned a B.S. in Construction Management, Matt has lived and worked in Colorado. Since 2016, Matt has run Hunzinger’s Denver office and has driven its growth as an emergent construction firm located on Market Street in Denver and has worked for clients like United Launch Alliance, Comcast, Uline, Audi/Volkswagen and BMO.
“I’ve dreamed of working for Hunzinger Construction Company since I was a little kid. I’m so grateful to be here and to work with such amazing people! It’s an honor to be able help steward this great company for the next generation,” said Matt Hunzinger President of Hunzinger Construction Company.
New President Scott Wendt started at Hunzinger as an Engineering Co-Op while at Marquette University and was hired full-time as a Project Engineer over 23 years ago with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He rose through the company and became an accomplished Project Manager. As a Project Executive, in addition to managing projects, he serves as a mentor to young construction professionals, bringing a dedication and deep understanding of the construction business to his work. He is very detail oriented, and client focused, which results in extraordinarily happy clients and repeat business. Scott’s clients include multiple area school districts, the Milwaukee Brewers and Milwaukee Admirals, Bayshore Mall, high tech manufacturers like Zund North American Headquarters, GEA, and GE Healthcare. He has also completed dozens of warehouse, industrial and tenant projects for developers like Interstate Partners and Wangard Partners.
Scott added, “To serve as the next President of such a remarkable company that is built on generations of excellence, tradition and integrity, is an incredible honor, and would not be possible without the unwavering support, guidance, and belief of so many people along the way. I am also sincerely grateful to our clients for the opportunities you’ve entrusted Hunzinger with over the years. Each challenge, each collaboration, and each success has helped shape my career and prepared me for this new journey. I look forward to leading with the same dedication and integrity that you’ve all inspired in me.”
David Tengler started at Hunzinger as an intern 18 years ago while at UW–Madison and was hired full-time as an Assistant Project Manager with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He rose through the company and became an accomplished Project Manager. Three years ago, David was promoted to Vice President/Project Executive and took on additional operational duties like recruiting, training and evaluating project management staff, coordinating company operations and strategic planning efforts. David embraces technology and strives to continually improve Hunzinger’s construction management process. David’s clients include JCI Worldwide Headquarters, Milwaukee Art Museum and Uline, having managed their last 6 Warehouse and Distribution Center Facilities. He is currently overseeing Foxtown Landing in downtown Milwaukee and Uline’s new H4 Corporate Office in Pleasant Prairie.
According to Hunzinger Chairman and CEO John Hunzinger, “Matt, Scott and David bring decades of experience in the construction industry. They know our business, our people, and our values. I have full confidence and trust in their leadership. We will all continue to always Do the Right Thing each and every day.”
This transition ensures continuity of purpose and values while positioning Hunzinger Milwaukee and Denver for continued growth, innovation, and success.
