UW-MILWAUKEE PANTHER ARENA UPGRADESports & Entertainment
UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena Milwaukee Admirals Alteration is located at 400 W Kilbourn Avenue in Milwaukee, WI. Hunzinger Construction Company served as the original General Contractor for the arena. It offers seats for 12,700 people and has 41,000 feet of floor space. The arena is part of a larger downtown campus that includes the Milwaukee Theatre and Wisconsin Center.
The project involved the renovation of approximately 5,360 SF of existing concourse ceiling on the main, 200, level of the Arena. The work includes but is not limited to selective demolition, new ceilings, painting of new and existing MEP equipment, painting of ceilings, walls, and structural elements, lighting, electrical, and HVAC modifications. The locker rooms, media room, pro shop, VIP areas and restrooms were all renovated during this undertaking.
Designed by Eschweiler & Eschweiler, the arena was built in seventeen months and the total cost was $11.6 million, about $120 million today. The structure is concrete and brick with a Maple NBA basketball floor, an NHL size ice rink and can house an AstroTurf field. When it opened in 1950, it was one of the first to accommodate the needs of broadcast television.
It was folded into the MECCA complex when it opened in 1974. It is also known for its former unique basketball court painted by Robert Indiana in 1978, with large rainbow ‘M’s taking up both half-courts representing Milwaukee.
