New Voo Dining Hall and Renovated Sperling Hall
Hunzinger was the General Contractor for the University School of brand-new, Ming Ming Voo MDS’63 Dining Room, and the remodeled and expanded Harvey B. Sperling Hall. The Voo Dining Room is specially designed for prekindergarten, junior kindergarten, and kindergarten students, and features right-sized furniture and a smaller, quieter space for USM’s youngest learners. The completely remodeled and expanded Lower and Middle School dining room, Harvey B. Sperling Hall, includes space that can accommodate more students. The reconfiguration of the dining room also provides flexible spaces that can be better utilized for community gatherings. Both spaces were designed by Ramlow Stein Architecture + Interiors. Hunzinger self-performed selective demo, rough and finish carpentry and site concrete. The project was completed in 8 months with much built while school was occupied.

The USM Tower is the prominent architectural feature of the school located in River Hills and was built in 1960. Since 1996 there has been a tradition for all graduates of the school to climb the tower upon completion of their schooling and sign their name somewhere inside the tower. This is a great tradition and an interesting challenge for our people as they are charged with preserving signatures that are on the old windows that will be replaced.

Lower School Entrance & Classroom Remodel is located at 2100 West Fairy Chasm Road in River Hills, WI. Hunzinger Construction Company was hired as the General Contractor for this lower level upgrade of the Lower School’s Entrance. The project also included renovation work at The Middle School where three classrooms were transformed into two, one a general purpose classroom and the other into a high-tech Makerspace for the Industrial Arts.

There was also extensive updating to the lobby and installation of a new state-of-the-art security kiosk system that employs the latest technology that schools are using today. The new lobby is now home to a community room/full service coffee shop that serves this USM’s busy parent volunteers and various philanthropic efforts.

Ramlow Stein Architecture + Interiors (formerly Uihlein Wilson Architects) based in Milwaukee were the project designers with Graef and Ring & Duchateau working as project engineers. This fast-tracked project was completed in just 8 weeks. Hunzinger self-performed selective demolition, concrete, masonry and all rough and finish carpentry work.
