Hunzinger served as Construction Manager for the 191,456 SF, $44.5M project that included full Construction management/general contracting services for the Starbuck School. This multi-year project was completed over 2 summer breaks and one regular school year. The 101,849 SF renovation took place in multiple phases throughout the school year while the school is 100% occupied. The project included a 90,000 SF addition, safety, ADA, and security updates, modernization of learning spaces to accommodate enrollment projections, a building addition to support a 4-section, K-8 grade configuration, site improvements, including a new playground and vehicle circulation and infrastructure improvements and building maintenance. In addition, the school saw a transformation as Jefferson Lighthouse and West Ridge merged to become Starbuck K8 International Baccalaureate World School. They now serve students from kindergarten to grade eight. This complex project also included diverse subcontracting and Racine Unified School District Workforce Goals. On the minority, women and local contracting goals, we contracted with 14 total (goal was 4 M/W/DBE and 4 local) Racine businesses. Our diverse subcontractors totaled over $8 million dollars in diverse spend and Hunzinger committed to utilizing local contractors and suppliers and to date has subcontracted with 4 local businesses for contracts totaling over $4.4 million dollars. The goal was to have 20% of the workers from the RUSD and Hunzinger exceeded that by having over 27% of the workforce from within the Racine School District Boundaries.
