The SC Johnson Elementary expansion and renovations are part of RUSD’s Long Range Master Plan made possible by a $600M referendum. The project includes expanding, renovating, and modernizing the SC Johnson Elementary School, originally constructed in 1955, with building additions in 1961 and 1991, to meet current curriculum standards while creating educational spaces that enhance learning and engages students. The 11,000-square-foot expansion is a multipurpose gymnasium and stage/performance space. The expansion provides the opportunity to renovate the area currently occupied by the gym and auditorium into a community room, a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) classroom, a new art room, and offices. The renovation also included revitalizing the interior finishes throughout the school and the “right-sizing” of classrooms.
