Hunzinger served as Construction Manager for the SC Johnson Elementary School. The $18M project included expanding, renovating, and modernizing the school that was originally constructed in 1955, with building additions in 1961 and 1991. The completed school meets current curriculum standards while creating educational spaces that enhance learning and engage students. The 11,000-square-foot expansion is a multipurpose gymnasium and stage/performance space. The expansion provided the opportunity to renovate the area currently occupied by the gym and auditorium into a community room, a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) classroom, a new art room, and offices. The renovation also included revitalizing the interior finishes throughout the school and the “right-sizing” of classrooms. Other aspects of the project included HVAC upgrades and adding air conditioning, a Fire Alarm System Replacement, creating a Makers Space in library, completing masonry repairs, installing new LED lighting and clock system with phone emergency power system. We also closed existing glass block windows along the roof line and completed significant high priority roofing repairs.
