Milwaukee Youth Arts Center (MYAC) and their primary tenants the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) and First Stage hired Hunzinger Construction to serve as General Contractor for the $7 million expansion of its existing building’s footprint by adding 42,000 SF of usable space on the lower level. These renovations allow them to serve an additional 20,000 students annually. The scope of work included adding two rehearsal halls, six studios, and six small-group instruction rooms on the lower level. Additional upgrades improved accessibility, technology and lighting throughout the building for improved safety and energy savings. An upgrade to the Mainstage Hall was also completed for this tax credit project that included diversity and inclusion goals. The Minority and Women-Owned Business (M/WBE) utilization goal was 25% and we achieved 55%. On the workforce side, the goal was 25% minority, woman and apprentices working on the project and we doubled that goal by achieving 50%. Ramlow + Stein Architecture and Interiors was the designer for the project.
