Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard is located on the Henry Maier Festival Park Summerfest Grounds at 200 North Harbor Drive on Milwaukee’s lakefront. Hunzinger Construction Company served as construction manager for both phases of the South End Development that was designed by Eppstein Uhen Architects based in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

Completed in time for the 2011 season, this project included a new south entrance gate, ticketing/box office, guest services area, and public restrooms. The focal point of this phase was the new state-of-the-art Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard performance area with reconfigured seating, a new stage, vendor building, and elevated VIP entertaining deck. Hunzinger self-performed many divisions of trade work including all concrete work and some carpentry and masonry work. There was a 25% diversity contracting goal for this project and Hunzinger exceeded the goal by achieving 28.70%.

“On behalf of Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. and our Board of Directors, I want to thank you, and all of your employees and contractors who diligently worked on Phase I of the South End Development. I could not be happier with the finished project, and I think we have created something that all Milwaukeeans can be proud of. We could not have done it without you, and we certainly appreciate the long hours, hard work and vision you put toward the final result. Summerfest is very fortunate to have your as a partner.”
