Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Pamela and Hermann Viets Field is located at 1305 N. Broadway in downtown Milwaukee. Hunzinger Construction Company served as the Construction Manager for this 3-story, 303,000 square foot precast parking structure topped with a 103,000 SF Division III Athletic Soccer Field designed by Uihlein Wilson Architects of Milwaukee. One full level of parking is below grade and two levels are partially below grade.
Viets Field features an athletic field constructed on top of an in-ground, 780-car parking facility. The field is used for collegiate soccer, lacrosse, rugby and youth sports. There also is a small ground-level public park on the northern end of the site along Water Street. The $30 million project is the first major development in the Park East Corridor. The development was largely supported with a very generous donation from Doctors Robert and Patricia Kern. This project included several sustainable features and not only do the park and field provide needed green space for downtown, they also reduce the heat island effect from hard surface building roofs and pavement. The three levels of parking under the field reduce local asphalt surface parking lots by 6.9 acres.
