Johnson Controls, Inc. Corporate Headquarters Campus is located at 5757 N. Green Bay Avenue in Glendale, WI. Hunzinger served as Construction Manager for this 700,000 SF multi-phased commercial renovation and expansion. Gensler, a global design firm with offices in Chicago served as the campus development architect. The project drew international attention as the first project in the world to achieve multi-building LEED Platinum certification.
JCI occupied the campus without any work interruptions throughout the 33-acre project site that consisted of the complete gut and remodel of the 69,000 SF Corporate North and 60,000 SF Corporate South buildings, construction of two new buildings, the 330,000 square foot Power Solutions Headquarters and the 30,000 SF Amenities Building, the addition of an eight-level garage with plug-in ports for electric vehicles, and renovation and construction of JCI’s World Technology Center. Prominent features include the largest solar field in Wisconsin, a separate roof-top mounted photovoltaic system, a large geothermal field consisting of 272 vertical wells, living green roofs, a 32,000-gallon cistern buried underground for the collection of rainwater for the campus’ gray water system, and a unique parking lot covered in porous pavers that allows rainwater to be absorbed and naturally cleansed.
Johnson Controls, Inc. Power Solutions Expansion – Hunzinger served as Construction Manager for this 97,000 SF expansion that added two stories to their Power Solutions Headquarters Building. Gensler, a global design firm with offices in Chicago served as the architect. This addition, like the original Power Solutions Headquarters building we built, achieved LEED Platinum certification.
The challenge of this project was that JCI occupied, all the buildings during construction. All of our work had to be done without any client interruptions. The schedule was fast-tracked and the construction occurred during the winter months as the two new stories were built atop a fully functioning office building. Our crews worked 2nd and 3rd shifts, when necessary, to ensure a safe and quiet work environment for the JCI employees. Later phases of this project also included adding 4 levels to an existing 4 level garage with plug-in ports for electric vehicles.
They treat each project with the same care and approach from start to finish. Their work is always efficient and safe and leads us to innovative, cost effective projects that align our business and operational goals.”
