HSI / Derse Exhibits is located at 3800 W Canal Street in the Menomonee Valley of Milwaukee, WI. Hunzinger Construction Comnpany served as the Construction Manager for this 155,000 square foot commercial project. It was awarded a LEED NC – Silver certification. Eppstein Uhen Architects based in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward served the project designer.

This new 155,000 square foot facility consists of 15,000 square feet of office mezzanine, 15,000 square feet of first floor area, approximately 45,000 square feet of manufacturing area and 80,000 square feet of warehousing.

Load bearing pre-cast concrete exterior wall panels with steel open web joist systems are the foundation of this open and airy building.  The facility is a sharp contrast to the former brownfield it sits on.

This former industrial site was left abandoned by a rail manufacturer and for 20 years there was no activity on the site until a public-private partnership began redeveloping the area, attracting new industrial companies to the valley. Pedestrian-friendly walkways and rear parking allows the building to be closer to the street, give the HSI/Derse Exhibits building a modern take and help to give the valley a fresh look.

“The Derse Exhibits building occupies an area that was once marshland, which created unique challenges. With Hunzinger Construction the team overcame these site challenges to deliver the vision of an elegant design that achieved LEED Silver certification. We look forward to working with Hunzinger in the future to help solve the complex projects.”
