Harley-Davidson Juneau Avenue Masonry Repair and Roof Parapet Replacement Project is located at Harley-Davidson Motor Company World Headquarters at 3700 Juneau Avenue in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Hunzinger Construction Company was hired as the general contractor to remove and reconstruct the existing parapets on the 3700, 3800 and 3900 buildings. The three buildings are 100+ years old and combine for a total of 1,500 linear feet of necessary parapet reconstruction. Strass-Maquire & Associates Inc., based in Mequon, WI, are the project engineers.
The parapet walls were showing their age, and each was taken down to the top of the existing lintels, which is about 7 feet. Hunzinger self-performed the demolition work and all concrete beam repair. KMI, LLC of Brookfield was the masonry subcontractor on the project, Langer was the roofing contractor and Ace Iron was the steel fabricator for the preservation of these historic buildings. Crews worked both first and second shifts, roughly 85 feet in the air on a combination of swing stages and conventional scaffolding. A Hydro Mobile material lift was used to maximize productivity. Crews used new bricks as the timeworn parapets were damaged by a century of exposure to the elements.
