Building The Future Together

On Wednesday evening, November 5th, Hunzinger Construction Company’s H2 Building located at 21050 Enterprise Avenue, Brookfield, WI, played host to 21 matches from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County for the 5th Annual Troop Care Shipment by BBBS and Hunzinger. “Bigs” and “Littles” stuffed holiday stockings with much needed items for care packages for our troops overseas. The Littles wrote cards and letters and decorated ornaments for the stockings. They filled the stockings with candy, Ramen noodles, Easy Mac, beef jerky, gum, mints, trail mix, granola bars and tube socks, all heavily requested items.

The night included a presentation by Carl Broberg, a Hunzinger Project Manager, Army Reservist, and 3 time combat veteran, serving two tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq. Carl Broberg, who recently has been selected by the Department of the Army as a Warrant Officer Candidate, shared his experiences with the children, let them “try on” his gear and ran them through a few challenging drills. Everyone had a great time preparing the care packages, eating pizza and catching up with other matches.

At Hunzinger, we appreciate others getting involved in our Troop Care Shipment Program. It is rewarding to see the enthusiasm people bring to this effort. To date, our Troop Care Shipment Program has delivered 40 tons of supplies to 100 military units on 20 bases. Our last Troop Care Shipment of the year will be Friday, December 5th at 11 AM at H2.  The shipment will have a Christmas holiday theme and we will be looking for food items that are easy to prepare and carry.  White tube socks are still needed but the requests for toiletries have steadily declined.  Please feel free to drop off items any time between now and December 3rd.
