Building The Future Together

The first phase of work on the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s new apartment facility, The Tower Apartments, located at 1150 North Water Street, Milwaukee, WI, was completed on time for the fall quarter and work on the second phase will begin this winter.  The opening of this high profile building provided an opportunity for the university to raise its profile with significant new signage on one of Milwaukee’s busiest streets.  Hunzinger, serving as construction manager, coordinated the overnight lifts to place two new large signs on the 13th floors of the south and east elevations of the tower.

The signs were 16 by 16 feet and contained the recognizable red background and white MSOE letters, matching the signage on the Kern Center and Pamela and Hermann Viets Field.  Additionally, each sign had a second 2’ 4” by 16’ sign with black backgrounds with white letters with the word University mounted just below the MSOE signs.

Sign Effectz Inc. of Milwaukee, Uihlein Electric of Brookfield and Ideal Crane Rental Inc. based in Wauwatosa along with Hunzinger all contributed to the sign’s installation.  Uihlein Wilson Architects, located in downtown Milwaukee, is the project architect for this complex conversion that is part renovation and part new construction.  Hunzinger is self-performing any needed demolition, concrete, rough and finish carpentry work.  By the end of the year, two additional signs will be placed on the Water Street north east corner elevation as part of a rooftop building topper.
