Summary:
Hunzinger Construction served as the Construction Manager for the Power Solutions Building Expansion Project located in Glendale, WI at Johnson Control Inc.’s World Headquarter Campus. The expansion project includes a two story addition to the original 2 story LEED Platinum certified building that Hunzinger Construction built in 2009. The new addition consists of two new 42,500 square foot floors that are being used for office space and a 6,800 square foot mechanical penthouse and light monitor. The new office space on the 3rd and 4th floors embraces new design elements that reflect society’s ever changing working environment. The theme on the two new floors is “collaborative work environment,” this idea is represented through numerous team rooms, ideate rooms, huddle spaces, workshops, focus rooms, and open office furniture. There is not one private office space on the 3rd or 4th floor. Over half of the walls that do exist are constructed out of patterned glass, which serves as the room’s dry erase board and really creates an open feeling.
Additional key features of the project are a 3 story wood wall, 4 story monumental stairs, several green roofs, two large skylights, and abundant natural daylight that floods every inch of the space. In harmony with the 1st and 2nd floors – most of the materials chosen for the project contain one or more of the following attributes: high recycled content, locally manufactured, FSC certified wood that is free of added urea formaldehyde, and VOC compliant coatings, adhesives, and sealants. The project took just over a year to complete while the 1st and 2nd floors remained fully occupied. Through a collaborate effort with Johnson Controls and an excellent group of subcontractors, the project was safely completed on time and under budget.
