Building The Future Together

Hunzinger Construction Company is proud to announce that Sustainable Building Solutions Director Phil Vetterkind was awarded Green Builder of the Year at The Daily Reporter’s 2017 Newsmakers of the Year awards banquet. The event took place at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee where nearly 325 construction and design industry professionals attended to honor 32 newsmakers.

As Director of Sustainable Building Solutions, Phil works with clients like Dominion Properties where he led the LEED Platinum Certifications for the Sage on Jackson and Sage on Prospect projects, Wangard Partners Inc., Northwestern Mutual, Rockwell and Johnson Controls, Inc.. Phil recently completed the University of Wisconsin La Crosse Student Center that received LEED BD+C Gold certification and is now working on the new Field House project on campus as well. He is currently wrapping up the Steamfitters Training Center in Madison, WI and submitting the paperwork for LEED Silver BD+C Certification.

“Every day is different and I really enjoy working with clients to navigate the intricacies of their specific project to take advantage of the great sustainable building materials and latest green building methods to maximize their project’s energy efficiency and minimize project costs,” said Vetterkind. “Getting LEED certification is great, but many clients choose to follow green building practices without pursuing LEED certification. That is okay too, I am happy to be able to introduce sustainable options for them that can reduce the construction or ongoing maintenance costs and help to lessen the impact on the environment.”
